TO THE GLORY OF GOD

The United Episcopal Church

Meets in the Seventh General Convention

May 21-23, 2002

Held at Saint Gabriel's Episcopal church - Springdale, Ark.

The General Convention in Springdale, AR. was a huge success. Everything moved along smoothly, cheerfully and in the Holy Spirit of Christian fellowship. Father Rick and the members of St. Gabriel's did a super job of preparing for this wonderful experience. New Officers were appointed to the National Council and Our Good Bishop was given encouragement and full support in his efforts to establish a bond and possible inter-communion with our sister Churches of the traditional faith.

With this Holy Spirit and Godly love, how can we fail?

Activities of the Convention

The Very Reverend Douglas J. King, Rector of St. Barnabas [APA] Seattle Washington, was the featured guest speaker and presented a Seminar on

"THE CHURCH".

Father King, dramatically outlined the flow of the Seminar on Church Growth with the presupposition that the discussion must be dogmatic. We must define "The Church" according to the declarations of Holy Scripture, the conclusions of the ecumenical councils of the early Church era, and the formularies of our own received tradition as incorporated in the Book of Common Prayer and the Articles of Religion.

He has no magic formula and he would not tell us that we must adopt trendy designs, change our name or that we must provide entertainment and showy  productions but we might find guidance and perspective in the Holy Scriptures (Old and New), from the History of the Church and in the Book of Common Prayer.

It is his belief that that these tools will help us find our way in the wilderness.

WHAT DID GOD TELL

ABRAHAM TO DO ?

"Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew you."

Abraham was called out of his world, away from all that he had known and held dear, to follow God to a better life.

SHOULD WE DO LESS?

WHAT IS "THE CHURCH"?

The word "Church" (ekklesia) is first used by Christ       "Upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

The Church is the - Temple of God - corporately and individually.

As the dividing wall was broken down between Jews and Gentiles, so shall the wall that divides  the traditional Episcopal / Anglican Church fall as we focus on the essentials of The Church.

The visible Church is the congregation of faithful men, in which the pure Word of God is preached, and the Sacraments are duly ministered according to Christ's ordinance (Article XIX).  Individual agendas, individual preferences, individual emphasis on particular doctrines or traditions which promote a separate party spirit, grieve the Holy Spirit and divide the Church.  Every thought, every agenda, must be made subject to the Lordship of Jesus Christ..

TAKE THE WORD OUTSIDE OF THE SAFETY OF YOUR INNER CIRCLE OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS. TAKE THE GOSPEL TO THE UN-CHURCHED.

TEAR DOWN THE WALLS THAT DIVIDE, FOR UNITED WE STAND AND DIVIDED WE FALL.
